The President today announced that he will nominate Daniel Marcus, of Bethesda, Md., to be General Counsel of the Department of Agriculture. He would replace Sarah Weddington, who resigned to join the White House staff. Marcus is currently Deputy General Counsel at the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare.
He was born January 5, 1941, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He received a B.A. from Brandeis University in 1962 and an LL.B. from Yale Law School in 1965.
In 1965 and 1966, Marcus was law clerk to Judge Harold Leventhal of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. From 1966 to 1977, he was an attorney with the Washington firm of Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering, as a partner from 1973 to 1977. He has been at HEW since 1977.
