United States Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Nomination of William D. Wolle.

The President today announced that he will nominate William D. Wolle, of Sioux City, Iowa, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to the United Arab Emirates. He would replace Francois M. Dickman, who is being transferred to another post.

Wolle has been director of the Office of Research and Analysis for Near East and South Asia at the State Department since 1978.

He was born March 11, 1928, in Sioux City, Iowa. He received a B.A. from Morningside College in 1949 and an M.I.A. from Columbia University in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947.

Wolle joined the Foreign Service in 1951 and was posted in Baghdad, Manchester, Beirut, Aden, and Jidda. From 1962 to 1965, he was at the State Department as an international economist, then an international relations officer. From 1965 to 1967, he was officer in charge of of Arab-Israel affairs.

In 1967-68 Wolle attended the National War College, and from 1968 to 1970, he was counselor for political affairs in Kuwait. He was economic-commercial officer in Amman from 1970 to 1972 and commercial officer in Nairobi from 1972 to 1974. From 1974 to 1978, he was Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman.
