Vice President Mike Pence will travel to Ankara, Turkey on behalf of President Donald Trump.
On October 16, the Vice President will lead a delegation including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, United States National Security Advisor Robert O'Brien, and Ambassador James Jeffrey. In Turkey, the Vice President will voice the United States' commitment to reach an immediate ceasefire and the conditions for a negotiated settlement.
On October 17, Vice President Pence will participate in a bilateral meeting with President Erdo?an. During the meeting, Vice President Pence will reiterate President Trump's commitment to maintain punishing economic sanctions on Turkey until a resolution is reached. The ongoing violence in the region, severely undermines the D-ISIS campaign, endangers civilians and religious minorities, and threatens the security of the entire region. The Administration is resolved to maintain security in the region, the safety of civilians, and the continued detention of ISIS fighters.
This trip will be Vice President Pence's first trip to Turkey as Vice President. Additional details about the Vice President's trip are forthcoming.
