Continuation of Frank E. Young as Commissioner of Food and Drugs at the Department of Health and Human Services

The President today announced that Frank E. Young, M.D. will continue to serve as Commissioner of Food and Drugs at the Department of Health and Human Services.

Dr. Young has served as Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration since July 15, 1984. While Commissioner he has served as a member of the U.S. delegation to the world health assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, 1985 - 1986, and led the U.S. delegation to the third U.S./Israeli symposium on health in Jerusalem, 1985. He has served as chairman of the executive hospital committee of Strong Memorial Hospital, 1979 - 1984; chairman of the medical advisory committee for Monroe Community Hospital, 1979 - 1984; and a pathologist for Strong Memorial Hospital, 1974 - 1984. He was dean of the school of medicine and dentistry, and director of the medical center of the University of Rochester, 1979 - 1984, and vice president for health affairs, 1981 - 1984.

Dr. Young graduated from Union College, the medical center of the State University of New York (M.D.), and Case Western Reserve University (Ph.D). He is married and has five children.
