Department of State Nomination of Roberts Bishop Owen To Be Legal Adviser.

The President today announced that he will nominate Roberts Bishop Owen, of Washington, D.C., to be Legal Adviser of the Department of State. He would replace Herbert J. Hansell, resigned. Owen is a partner in the law firm of Covington & Burling.

He was born February 11, 1926, in Boston, Mass. He received a B.A. in 1948 and an LL.B. in 1951 from Harvard University, and a C.L.S. from Cambridge University in 1952. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. Owen has been with Covington & Burling since 1952.
