Department of State Nomination of Rozanne L. Ridgway To Be Counselor of the Department.
The President today announced his intention to nominate Rozanne L. Ridgway as Counselor to the Department of State. She would replace Matthew Nimetz, who will be nominated as an Under Secretary of State.
Ridgway has been U.S. Ambassador to Finland since 1977.
She was born August 22, 1935, in St. Paul, Minn. She received a B.A. from Hamline University in 1957.
Ridgway joined the Foreign Service in 1957 as an information specialist at the State Department and served in Manila and Palermo. From 1967 to 1970, she was political officer in Oslo, and from 1970 to 1972, she was an international relations officer at the State Department.
From 1972 to 1973, Ridgway was Deputy Director of Policy Planning and Coordination in the Bureau of Inter-American Affairs. From 1973 to 1975, she was Deputy Chief of Mission in Nassau. She served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and Fisheries Affairs from 1975 to 1977.
