The following listing includes the President's public schedule and other items of general interest announced by the White House Press Office and not included elsewhere in this issue.

August 4

The President met at the White House with Zbigniew Brzezinski, Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs.

August 6

The President met at the White House with:

—Dr. Brzezinski;

—Frank B. Moore, Assistant to the President for Congressional Liaison;

—bishops of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.

August 7

The President met at the White House with:

—Dr. Brzezinski;

—former Governor Reubin O'D. Askew of Florida.

August 8

The President met at the White House with:

—Dr. Brzezinski;

—newly elected officers of the Southern Baptist Convention;

—Ambassador Ephraim Evron of Israel;

—James T. Mcintyre, Jr., Director of the Office of Management and Budget.

August 9

The President met at the White House with:

—Dr. Brzezinski;

—Rev. Jesse Jackson, national president of Operation PUSH (People United to Save Humanity).

August 10

The President met at the White House with:

—Secretary of Defense Harold Brown, Deputy Secretary of State Warren Christopher, Hamilton Jordan, Assistant to the President, and Dr. Brzezinski;

—Dr. Brzezinski;

—Mr. Moore;

—a group of editors and news directors (transcript will be printed next week).

The President participated in the briefing by administration officials for Hispanic community and civic leaders held in the East Room at the White House.

The White House announced the following personnel changes in the White House staff:

—Robert J. Lipshutz, Counsel to the President, intends to resign. He will return to Georgia to serve as cotrustee with Charles H. Kirbo of the Jimmy Carter Personal Assets Trust, and he will also chair the commission that will establish the Carter Presidential Library.

—Ambassador Esteban E. Torres, currently U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, will become Special Assistant to the President, working with programs and policies important to Hispanic Americans.

—Timothy E. Kraft, Assistant to the President, is going to the Carter-Mondale Committee as campaign manager.

—Sarah C. Weddington, currently Special Assistant to the President, will become Assistant to the President, assuming many of the duties of Mr. Kraft as well as continuing her work with programs and policies important to women.

—Ambassador Alonzo L. McDonald, currently Acting Special Representative for Trade Negotiations, will become Assistant to the President and director of the White House staff.

The President has asked Neil Goldschmidt to assume office as Secretary of Transportation, and Mr. Goldschmidt will be sworn into office Wednesday, August 15, in Portland, Oreg. Mr. Goldschmidt will take office under the recess appointment provision of the Constitution. His nomination was submitted to the Senate on August 2, and he will go through the normal confirmation process when the Senate returns from its recess.

The President left the White House for a weekend stay at Camp David, Md.
