European Communities Nomination of Thomas O. Enders To Be U.S. Representative.

The President today announced that he will nominate Thomas O. Enders, of Waterford, Conn., to be the Representative of the United States to the European Communities, with the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. Enders has been Ambassador to Canada since 1976.

He was born November 28, 1931, in Hartford, Conn. He received a B.A. from Yale University in 1953, an M.A. from the University of Paris in 1955, and an M.A. from Harvard University in 1957.

From 1958 to 1960, Enders was an intelligence research specialist at the State Department, and from 1960 to 1963, he was visa officer, then economic officer, in Stockholm. He was a supervisory international economist in the Bureau of European Affairs from 1963 to 1966.

From 1966 to 1968, Enders was special assistant in the office of the Under Secretary for Political Affairs. He was Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Monetary Affairs from 1968 to 1969 and Deputy Chief of Mission in Belgrade from 1969 to 1971.

From 1971 to 1974, Enders was Deputy Chief of Mission in Phnom Penh. From 1974 to 1976, he was Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs.
