Executive Order 7144—Exclusion of Land From the Tongass National Forest

August 19, 1935

ALASKA

By virtue of and pursuant to the authority vested in me by the act of June 4, 1897 (30 Stat. 11, 36; 16 U.S.C. 473), and upon the recommendation of the Secretary of Agriculture, it is ordered that the tract of land on Chichagof Island, Alaska, lying within the following-described boundaries and occupied as an Indian settlement be, and it is hereby, excluded from the Tongass National Forest:

Chs. Beginning at corner no. 1, meander corner for Inner Point Sophia Elimination, latitude 58°7'30" N., longitude 135°27'30" W., at line of
mean high water (Corner not set because of liability to destruction by
tides. This is identical with corner no. 8, meander corner to U.S. survey
no. 1472, eliminated. Witness corner bears N. 39° E., 60 lks.);
thence by meander
     (1) N. 42° W., 2.00 chs.,
     (2) N. 10° W., 1.00 chs.,
     (3) N. 22° E., 5.50 chs.,
to corner no. 2, meander corner, identical with corner no. 1 of U.S.
survey no. 1620, Inner Point Sophia Light Reserve;
thence east
5.67 to corner no. 3, identical with corner no. 2 of survey no. 1620;
thence S. 39° W.
9.835     along west boundary of U.S. survey no. 1472, to the place of beginning,
containing 2.87 acres more or less. The meanders were run November
2, 1934; the bearings of these lines were determined by needle compass,
allowing a variation of 31° E., and are intended to refer to the true
meridian.
