FLOTUS Pool Report - Charlotte, NC

A crowd of people gathered in Charlotte at a campaign event to welcome remarks from U.S. First Lady Jill Biden.

The event was held at the home of Kevin and Elizabeth Murphy.

Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles spoke briefly at the beginning of the event.

The stakes could not be higher, Lyles said of North Carolina's role in the 2024 election.

Elizabeth Murphy introduced the First Lady and urged audience members to continue to support the Biden-Harris campaign

"You guys can't stay all the way back there!" Biden said, urging attendees to come closer to the podium.

She recounted the time after President Joe Biden asked her to marry him for the fifth time. She said she was worried about giving up her career, becoming a mother "overnight" and the spotlight that comes with being a senator's wife.

Biden said even though their lives have changed since then, her husband's character has not. She said he has passed bold climate and gun legislation, and has worked with people on both sides of the aisle to find common ground on issues.

"Joe isn't just the right person for the job, he's the only person for the job," she said.

Biden said former President Donald Trump wakes up every morning thinking only of himself, while her husband wakes up thinking of ways to improve the lives of Americans.

It makes her angry when Trump disparages veterans, Biden said. She added that Trump is dangerous to women and families.

This election is not about age, but rather about character, wisdom and ability, she said.

She said MAGA Republicans are trying to bring the country into the past.

Biden asked attendees to remember the morning after the 2016 election. The crowd sighed and moaned in agreement.

"We cannot let that happen again, because I don't want to wake up with that feeling again," she said.

She closed her speech of about 12 minutes by emphasizing that her husband is working tirelessly to defend the freedoms and futures of the American people.
