FLOTUS pool report #1 The first lady this evening delivered remarks at a Biden Victory Fund event in the Forest Hills neighborhood of DC. The reception took place at the home of Dr. Claire Lucas and Judy Dlugacz. Ahead of the remarks pool spotted the first lady chatting with a few guests in the dining room of the residence. Other attendees were mingling with one another in the backyard, which featured a pool and fire pit. A bar was set up for guests to get drinks. The First Lady entered the living room of the residence at 5:50pm. Those in the room stood up and clapped as she walked in. Rows of chairs faced a podium at the front of the room. Your pooler counted around 50 guests. On the side of the room was a table with photos, including one that appeared to be one of the homeowners with former President Barack Obama. Dr. Claire Lucas started speaking at 5:51 to introduce the First Lady. She noted people came from California, Colorado and Florida to attend the event. She called the administration "the most effective in our entire lifetime" and said they raised more than $600,000 this evening. She also said she believed the house was the first in the U.S. to host all four White House principals. FLOTUS started by thanking those in attendance for taking the time to be there tonight. She recounted the story of the president asking her to marry him five times. "But what you may not know is exactly what happened the fifth time," she said before telling the story of how the president stopped by her apartment and gave her an ultimatum before leaving on a 10-day trip as part of a congressional delegation visiting South Africa. "So over the next 10 days, I mean, my mind raced, you know, what do I do? What do I do?" she said, noting she was 25 and living on her own. "I had never expected to become a wife and a mom to two young boys overnight. And let's face it, I mean, Joe is not going to be just any ordinary husband," she said. "Being Joe's wife, a senator's wife, would mean a life in the spotlight," she added. She recounted that when the president returned and she said yes, he told her "Jill, I promise you, your life will never be change." Guests laughed and flotus said that was "wildly untrue" but their "love for one another has remained constant." "But in this moment, with all the perils that the world is facing, There is no one that I would rather have sitting in the situation room right now than my husband," she said before mentioning former President Donald Trump. "That other guy, his opponent, wakes up every morning caring about one person and one person only," she said. "He is dangerous, you know this, to our families, and to our country." Flotus ended by talking about being "stir crazy" after the 2020 election before the winner had been declared. "I could not hear that Steve Kornacki or look at that board for one more minute," she said laughing. Flotus then recounted how her and the president went to get some fresh air on the Saturday after the election when their grandkids came running out to tell them the president had won. "We have to work harder than we've ever worked before. We have to push harder than we've ever pushed in the past. We have to meet this moment as if our rights are at stake because they are. As if our democracy is on the line because it is," the First Lady said. The guests repeated "because they are" and "because it is" with her. "With that urgency, we will win this election," she said. The First Lady wrapped and pool was taken out at 6:08 as the first lady hugged guests. |
