Charleston, S.C. — Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has earned the award of "Comrade of the Week" for her role in the Biden administration's watered down restrictions on U.S. investments in Chinese tech companies.
Last month, Yellen traveled to China to reassure the Chinese Communist Party that Biden's restrictions would be narrowly focused and wouldn't "fundamentally" impact China. One thing is sure: This policy will fundamentally hurt America. Yellen's insistence on a narrow approach means Americans will continue to fund technology that strengthens China's military and may be used against our own citizens.
Presidential candidate Nikki Haley slammed Biden's restrictions yesterday: "Joe Biden's new rules are not even a half measure. They will do little to stop American money flowing to China's military through its tech companies. To stop funding China's military, we have to stop all U.S. investment in China's critical technology and military companies — period."
As China gets increasingly more aggressive — most recently sending a joint China-Russia naval patrol near Alaska — Secretary Yellen has been a consistent voice for bowing — literally and figuratively — to China in the Biden administration.
