Haley Campaign Press Release - Conservatives Agree: Nikki Haley Showed Her Toughness On the Debate Stage

August 24, 2023

MILWAUKEE, WI – Conservatives pundits, influencers, and activists agree: Last night, Nikki Haley proved she's the tough leader America needs to make our country strong and proud again.

Here's what they are saying:

Ben Domenech, The Spectator, Fox News: The person who really came out as the star surprisingly was Nikki Haley. I thought that she really overperformed. In a sense she benefits even more from the fact that her fellow South Carolinian, Tim Scott, surprisingly faded into the background.

Matthew Continetti, New York Times: Haley made the most of her time before the cameras. She needed to remind G.O.P. voters that she was in the race, and why. She succeeded on both counts. And her answer on abortion proved that she is just as interested in winning the general election as the primary.

Jeanine Pirro: I was very impressed by Nikki. She has a lot of foreign policy experience and she showed it.

Ben Shapiro, The Daily Wire: ...The only candidate who really helped herself was Haley, who may have begun consolidating support from both Pence and Scott (what there is of it).

Bob Vander Plaats: Strong girls become strong women, and strong women become strong leaders. @NikkiHaley continues to champion a culture that supports BIOLOGICAL women.

John Roberts, Fox News: The line of the night last night belonged to Nikki Haley when she quoted Margaret Thatcher, saying, "If you want something said, ask a man. If you want something done, ask a woman."

Ainsley Earhardt, Fox and Friends: I thought Nikki Haley just knocked it out of the park with the debt, blaming Republicans and Donald Trump for the debt and saying it's time for an accountant in the White House.

Frank Luntz: Nikki Haley has never been as good as she is tonight. Sharp, solid, and compelling in every response. #GOPDebate

Fox News: It's time for an accountant in the White House: Nikki Haley calls out GOP spending

Erick Erickson: If the debate ended at this moment, Nikki Haley would dominate the conversation.

Rebeccah Heinrichs, Hudson Institute, Fox News: Nikki Haley had a standout moment tonight on foreign policy tonight because the American people still want peace through strength.

Brian Kilmeade, Co-anchor, Fox & Friends: I thought Nikki Haley stole the show... She was confident, working it on all sides...

Byron York, Washington Examiner: One who did take the opportunity was Haley... Haley made good use of a resume that ranges from a governorship to U.N. ambassador. Her most remembered moment was a dust-up with Ramaswamy, who, after Haley denounced Russian President Vladimir Putin and supported arming Ukraine, said, "I wish you well in your future career on the boards of Lockheed and Raytheon." Haley, who is not on the board of either company, went off on Ramaswamy, listing what she said were his wrongheaded foreign policy positions. She then kept at him as he repeatedly tried, and failed, to get a word in edgewise. Then she ended with, "You have no foreign policy experience, and it shows. It shows!" Ramaswamy was left sputtering and trying to explain.

Kayleigh McEnany: @NikkiHaley is a strong voice on foreign policy. Today, I told my 3-year-old daughter about the #GOPDebate, and she said "I want the only girl on the stage to win." Nikki is an inspiring woman & it's great to have her on this stage.

Zach Kessel, National Review: Haley has made her time as United Nations ambassador a centerpiece of her campaign, with her team sending out email blasts during and after the debate touting the "toughness" she brought "to dictators and murderers at the U.N." She also got off one of last night's best attacks against Ramaswamy on the subject, saying he has "no foreign-policy experience and it shows."

Josh Kraushaar, Fox News: This race was a battle to see who can become Donald Trump's biggest challenger in the primary... and Nikki Haley had the strongest performance on that stage in making that case because she's shown that she has appeal with the more traditional Republican voters, the classic conservatives, and she also has some sway with more Trump friendly voters. She had a really good moment against Vivek Ramawamy on foreign policy.

Tiana Lowe, Washington Examiner: Republican debate: Nikki Haley wins and it's not particularly close

Noah Rothman, National Review: Nikki Haley took a different approach on Wednesday night's debate stage by making the genuinely courageous decision to treat Republican debate waters like adults... Haley does not appear to think that you will shatter upon contact with a problem that does not have a pat solution with no trade-offs or downsides.

Rebeccah Heinrichs, Hudson Institute: Haley is right about this. If you correctly see that China is our biggest threat, the answer isn't to permit Russia to take territory in Ukraine (not that Putin wld be satisfied stopping there if we did); the answer is to ensure Ukraine prevails- that's a loss for China-Russia.

Hugh Hewitt: Do not make @NikkiHaley mad.

Josh Holmes, Ruthless: Nikki is not to be trifled with on foreign policy. Strong and confident stuff.

Iowa State Rep. Shannon Latham: Not sure why "much wasn't expected" but am glad @NikkiHaley is getting positive press. Ambassador Haley understands national security and is serious about securing the border. She's smart about education, too. #WomenforNikki

Brian Kilmeade, Fox & Friends: @VivekGRamaswamy gets schooled by @NikkiHaley - she crushes his ideas shows them to be paper thin

NH Journal: Liz Preate Havey, a longtime Republican party official in the suburbs of Philadelphia, was at the debate, and she saw it, too. The only standing ovation of the night was when Nikki Haley went after Vivek as not being capable of handling foreign policy, Havey said.

Daniel Cohen, Newsmax: One of the fiercest exchanges occurred over Israel...Nikki Haley didn't hold back Wednesday night, slamming Vivek Ramaswamy in a debate on the Fox News channel. Haley said Ramaswamy was completely wrong to call for ending America's special bond with Israel and criticized his lack foreign policy experience.

Fox News: Nikki Haley comes out swinging at other GOP candidates for approving big spending

The Daily Wire: Nikki Haley Unloads On Vivek Ramaswamy Over Foreign Policy

Megyn Kelly: Haley: biological boys do not belong in girls' locker rooms. SO SIMPLE, SO TRUE

Cesar Conda: Just imagine what Nikki Haley would do to demented Joe Biden on the debate stage. She is tough, smart, and compelling. Biden's handlers would throw in the towel.

Drew Cline, morning host WFEA Radio in New Hampshire: Haley took Vivek to school, paddled him, and called his mom to pick him up.

David Kochel: Great @NikkiHaley moment invoking Thatcher! Huge in the room.

Steven Law: Haley can hit like a truck.

Spencer Brown, Townhall: Haley with a masterclass on U.S. foreign policy and the state of play around the globe that got so much applause for telling Ramaswamy "you have no foreign policy experience and it shows" that he couldn't even answer.

Jim Merill: The line of the night delivered by @NikkiHaley - she has helped herself as much as anyone tonight, looking big on the big stage. #GOPDebate

Olivia Reingold, The Free Press: The only candidate who came out looking stronger from the evening was Haley, who served as Trump's ambassador to the United Nations, looked and sounded presidential, and ripped into Ramaswamy, saying he lacked "moral clarity" and was "choosing a murderer"—Russian president Vladimir Putin—over the forces of democracy
