Haley Campaign Press Release - Hypocrisy Alert: DeSantis Lies About His Chinese Business Ties While Lobbing Attacks
First, Ron DeSantis spent millions of dollars falsely attacking Nikki Haley's record on China.
Then, DeSantis orchestrated a government-wide cover-up to scrub the evidence of his recruitment of Chinese businesses from the Internet.
Then, DeSantis lied about giving Chinese companies state subsidies.
Then, more details emerged about DeSantis' cozy ties with Chinese companies.
Now, his awkward laugh on stage is a telling sign that DeSantis can't even sell his lies with a straight face.
Ron DeSantis is lying because he's losing.
RON DeSANTIS
Ron DeSantis aggressively recruits Chinese companies and investment to Florida. Just last month, he tried to cover up the evidence of his China ties, by deleting a government-run website.
- Ron DeSantis chairs Florida's economic development entity, Enterprise Florida, that seeks direct Chinese investment in Florida. Enterprise Florida was changed to Select Florida on Nov. 1, 2023.
- A 2019-2020 annual report details the great lengths Enterprise Florida went to recruit Chinese investment, including attending international trade shows and using tailored marketing tools to attract Chinese investors. The annual report, which has been scrubbed from the Internet, states, "EFI Hong Kong leveraged trade shows and industry or investment forums to expand our network and explore trade and investment opportunities for Florida."
- As of Nov. 1, 2023, Enterprise Florida listed an office in China, which has since been scrubbed from the Internet.
- An October 2022 report boasted about the jobs resulting from Chinese investment in Florida.
- Exposés by The Messenger and the New York Post show that Ron DeSantis scrubbed the internet of all the evidence of his China ties as soon as the media started asking questions.
Ron DeSantis told millions of voters he never gave JinkoSolar any money or favors. The Washington Examiner discovered DeSantis blatantly lied.
- Jinko Solar is a Chinese company that was raided by the Department of Homeland Security only a few months ago.
- In 2019-2020, DeSantis gave Jinko Solar $125,000 in state subsidies.
- In 2021-2022, DeSantis gave Jinko Solar $237,500 in state subsidies.
In 2023, DeSantis signed multimillion-dollar contracts with a Chinese aircraft company.
-
The DeSantis aircraft is a Diamond DA62, made by Diamond Aircraft, which is owned by Wanfeng Aviation Industry Co., headquartered in China.
Ron DeSantis allowed a sanctioned Chinese-owned aircraft company to expand in Florida and then POSED in front of the Chinese airplane while criticizing Joe Biden's weakness on China.
- Cirrus Aircraft is a subsidiary of Aviation Industry Corp. (AVIC) of China, a maker of fighter jets, helicopters, and drones for The People's Liberation Army.
- Starting In 2020, the U.S. flagged AVIC as a national security threat and imposed sanctions because of its connection to the Chinese military.
- Two years after AVIC was sanctioned, in 2022, Ron DeSantis did nothing and said nothing when Cirrus opened two new locations in Central Florida—at the Kissimmee Gateway Airport and Orlando Executive Airport.
- ??The Orlando Executive Airport is 12.7 miles from the Naval Air Warfare Center Navy Base.
DeSantis talks tough on China, but happily takes cash from a Chinese-backed company
- This August, DeSantis took a check for more than $11,000 from the CEO of iGas, a Tampa refrigerant company with direct backing from China.
- Last year DeSantis even held a rally at the Chinese-backed refrigerant company's Tampa complex.
- iGas and its employees have made more than $1.1 million in federal and state political contributions in the past five years, with $340,000 of that money going to DeSantis and his committees.
