Nomination of Mary F. Wieseman To Be Special Counsel of the Merit Systems Protection Board

The President today announced his intention to nominate Mary F. Wieseman to be Special Counsel of the Merit Systems Protection Board for a term of 5 years. She would succeed K. William O'Connor.

Since May 1983 Mrs. Wieseman has been Inspector General, Small Business Administration. Previously, she was a partner in the law firm of Wieseman, Wieseman & Gallagher, in Washington, DC, 1975-1983; Acting General Counsel, U.S. Legal Services Corporation, 1982-1983; attorney, Public Health Division, Office of General Counsel, U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, 1975-1976; consultant, Courts Division, National Institute of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice, U.S. Law Enforcement Assistance Administration, 1974; attorney in private practice of law, 1972-1974; legal counsel to Saint Elizabeths Hospital, 1971-1972; Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Columbia, 1968-1971; and attorney, general claims section, Civil Division, United States Department of Justice.

Mrs. Wieseman graduated from Catholic University (B.A., 1964; LL.B., 1967). She is married, has two children, and resides in Rockville, MD. Mrs. Wieseman was born September 14, 1942, in Washington, DC.
