Travel pool report #5: remarks. - 'We gotta finish the job. I promise you I am ok' A little over 50 people were gathered in the venue, which is decorated with old gas pumps and garage bric-a-brac, old Amoco posters and such like.. 'we love Joe' posters were displayed in the windows. Biden appeared at 16:57 and greeted a family with a young boy. Otter here: https://otter.ai/u/SBD7LyLbz0K_B73x5ghwVQpZjkE Rep Dingell opened proceedings describing the closeness of their families. 'When John died Joe was at my side and never let me be alone. Joe is my friend.' POTUS is beaming as she whips up the crowd. POTUS takes over at 1700 'When she and I are together she looks like my wife Jill.... They say are you married?' Then he describes a busy trip: 'there's a lot going on.' He speaks loudly and clearly throughout, walking around the tables as he does so, directing his words to individual tables as he goes. 'The reason I decided to run... My son died in 2015... So I decided I wasn't going to get engaged.... I was always going to run again. Repeats his Charlottesville story 'honest to God that's when I decided to run,' describing Trump, comment about fine people on both sides. 'There's a lot at stake' He said the nation was at an inflection point 'Whether it's climate change.... There's a lot changing not because of joe Biden as president. Said he ran for three reasons: 1 'Time to restore some ethics to the country' 2. 'deal with the issue of giving the middle class a fighting chance' 3 'I said we gotta bring the country together.' 'We were told we were going to lose in 2020. Remember? Well we won.' APPLAUSE Speaking about the press: "They say I'm naive even though I've been around 270 years." (Context was that he said he wanted to bring people together) He made a couple of jokes about his age but didn't discuss debate or questions about running directly. He said he was wrapping up after five minutes... And then spoke for another 9 minutes. That's why I'm running to finish this job. There's more to do. I know I'm only 41. … I promise you I'm okay. Referring to the election: "This is an important one. .. for the longest time I was too young because I was the second youngest man ever elected to the United States senate and now I'm too old." "With age comes a little wisdom … the alternative is not much of an alternative." He ended with: 'We gotta finish the job. I promise you I am ok' He finished at 17:14 to mingle with supporters. Pool taken out a few minutes later. |

Travel pool report #6: motorcade Worth pointing out that Biden spoke without notes throughout the event. A much bigger crowd has gathered outside the restaurant as we leave, including someone who has brought a Trump 2024 sign. On the other side of the corner five antiabortion signs reading, 'Abortion is legal violence,' and 'Abortion kills a person' have appeared. But there was no chanting or indeed much noise at all. Motorcade rolling for next event at 17:35. |

Travel pool report 8: POTUS addresses supporters in overflow area POTUS just addressed supporters in an overflow area, essentially the high school entrance, for about two minutes. It was harder to hear him here, but it was brief and much of what we already heard. He did signal how the aim now is to put the focus on Trump... 'You're the ones who bring me to the dance' 'By the way, we're going to win Michigan' 'Trump doesn't get out of his golf cart' 'It's going to be all about Trump from here on out.' 'Recent polls show us winning' |

Travel pool report #10: POTUS takes the stage to 'Don't you quit' chant POTUS took the stage at 19:17 to a rapturous reception, with huge chants of 'We love Joe' mixed with 'We want Joe.' He arrived with Pastor Cindy Rudolph who is making the introductory remarks, and is struggling to quiet a very enthusiastic crowd. 'Don't you quit,' they are chanting, to POTUS's obvious delight. He remains tieless. The campaign says that more than 2000 people are present for the event. |

Travel pool report #11: Biden remarks - crowd boos press - protester POTUS began speaking at 19:23. Finished at 19:59. ( I Won't Back Down by Tom Petty - is the walkoff music) He started by apologizing to people behind him, who had to look at his back. Not long after the crowd chanted at deafening levels: 'We got your back.' He was forced to halt and wait for the noise to subside. The event was livestreamed so hope you all caught it.x He addressed speculation about his future head on: 'There's a lot of speculation right now. What's Joe going to do, is he going to stay in?' he asked before answering: 'I am running and we're gonna win.' 'I am the nominee of the Democratic party and the only Demcrat who has beated Donal Trump ever. I know him. Donald Trump is a loser' The crowd broke into a chant of 'Lock him up.' Biden paused, did not acknowledge their words, and launched back into it. 'I'm not going anywhere.' 'You get knocked down and get back up.' Also notable, he criticised the press for hammering him for muddling names and so on. 'Pressmen are good guys. And women up there. They've been hammering me.' The crowd started booing and giving the media pen the thumbs down. All oddly familiar. However, Biden looked rather unsettled and talked the crowd down quickly. At about 19 minutes into the rally a kerfuffle erupted in front of the lectern. A woman, dressed in black, with a black head scarf, was removed by security guards as the crowd drowned out her cries of 'Free Palestine,' with chants of 'Four more years.' 'I understand her passion' he said, pivoting to talk about his Gaza plan. Soon after he moved on to the well trailed attack on Trump and the Project 2025 'It's time to stop treating politics like entertainment.' He set out plans for his 100 days of a second administration. One of the biggest cheers came for the line. 'I don't work for big pharma. I don't work for the National Rifle. Association. I work for you the American people.' |
