Travel Pool Report #2 The Original Lindo Michoácan Restaurant/Univision

The pool arrived at The Original Lindo Michoácan Restaurant at 1:09 PM. We were escorted to a dining room inside the restaurant.

A row of booths lined each wall. Two tables were positioned in the middle of the area. Patrons sat at each table wearing business casual attire, seemingly knowing that the president would soon arrive. A microphone and glass of water was placed on one empty booth, likely for the president's interview with Univision. In the booths behind the press, audio producers were already in place with their equipment.

"Latinos for Biden Harris" signs were posted on one wall. "Burbujas de Amor," by Juan Luis Guerra, played loudly in the restaurant's speakers. At 1:22 PM, the president shuffled into the restaurant through the kitchen door with his security detail. He made a surprised facial expression at the first patron spotted.

The president moved to his left, taking selfies with guests at three different booths. "This is all of us," he said as he allowed other patrons from an adjacent booth to get in the photograph.

We were too far — and the music too loud — to hear his conversations with the patrons. He then pointed at a guest sitting in front of us and joked "who's that guy?"

As he began to make his way over to us, his staff began to shout that it was time for us to leave. Pool shouted if the president had any response to Rep. Schiff's calls for Biden to step down, but were drowned out by his staff shouting "thank you, press!"

We were escorted out of the restaurant at 1:28 PM. We're now holding in the vans while the president does his interview with Univision.

Travel Pool report #3 POTUS COVID reports

[APP Note: This is Report #4. See reporter's note in Report #5 (below).]

All, I've called and asked the White House repeatedly for confirmation but do not yet have it. But passing along this quote from the CEO of UnidosUS

We're rolling at 3:10. Will let you know asap when I know more.

Janet Murguía:

"Thank you all so much for your patience and understanding. Regrettably I was just on the phone with President Biden. And he shared his deep disappointment at not being able to join us this afternoon. The President has been at many events as we all know and he just tested positive for COVID. So of course we understand that he needs to take the precautions that have been recommended and he did not obviously want to put anybody at risk.

Travel pool report #5 White House confirms COVID

(Last pool report should have been number 4).

Statement from Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre

Earlier today following his first event in Las Vegas, President Biden tested positive for COVID-19. He is vaccinated and boosted and he is experiencing mild symptoms. He will be returning to Delaware where he will self-isolate and will continue to carry out all of his duties fully during that time. The White House will provide regular updates on the President's status as he continues to carry out the full duties of the office while in isolation.

Note from the President's Doctor:

The President presented this afternoon with upper respiratory symptoms, to include rhinorhea (runny nose) and non-productive cough, with general mailaise. He felt okay for his first event of the day, but given that he was not feeling better, point of care testing for COVID-19 was conducted, and the results were positive for the COVID-19 virus. Given this, the President will be self-isolating in accordance with CDC guidance for symptomatic individuals. PCR confirmation testing will be pending. His symptoms remain mild, his respiratory rate is normal at 16, his temperature is normal at 97.8 and his pulse oximetry is normal at 97%. The President has received his first dose of Paxlovid. He will be self-isolating at his home in Rehoboth.

Travel pool report #6 airport arrival // "I feel good."

The motorcade arrived at Harry Reid international at 3:20.

The President leaned out of the beast and gave the press a thumbs up. We asked how he was feeling. He was not wearing a mask as he walked to Air Force one.

"Good."

"I feel good."

He walked cautiously up the stairs (the lower staircase) and entered Air Force one at 3:21 PM.

Travel Pool Report #8 Dover landing

Air Force One landed at 10:20 PM. We were in the air for three hours and 48 minutes. The flight was quite bumpy at times.

Your pool requested an on the record gaggle on the plane. That was denied.

***Some more notes from POTUS's visit to the restaurant and our delay:

Your pool spotted the president shake at least three hands. (He might have greeted others this way; at one point he turned his back to us). The overhead fans in the restaurant were on.

Before the pool was escorted out of the restaurant, the president sat in a booth next to two other patrons. At least one other guest sat across from him.

We were escorted out of the restaurant at 1:28 PM. By 2 PM, we saw White House staff that stayed back in the restaurant for his Univision interview come back to the motorcade.

We continued to wait. Your pooler asked repeatedly what the president was doing. The White House only said he was still was on site.

Secret Service agents later raised the hoods on the motorcade vans because some of the vehicles appeared to be overheating. While we were waiting in the parking lot, the temperature reached 110 degrees. After nearly an hour and 40 minutes, the motorcade finally left the restaurant at 3:10 PM.

*** Passing this along from the White House:

Today, the President received an updated homeland security briefing from Liz Sherwood-Randall, Assistant to the President and Homeland Security Advisor.

The following staff participated in the briefing:

Bruce Reed, Assistant to the President and Deputy Chief of Staff

Travel Report #9 Biden enters motorcade

The president began to exit Air Force One at 10:29 PM. He took a step and then paused and waved straight ahead. He then turned to the right and looked somewhere for a couple seconds. He then turned to the left and looked at the press. He then slowly made his way down the stairs.

He was wearing a cap and a jacket. Reporters shouted questions about whether he had a response to Schumer.

"I am doing well," Biden said. He then stepped into the beast at 10:32 PM. We're rolling at 10:34 PM.

Out of town pool 1: Dover arrival

Good evening from Dover Air Force Base, where Air Force 1 touched down at 10:20pm.

POTUS emerged and slowly descended the stairs at 10:31. He wore a baseball cap, but no mask. He paused briefly and appeared to mouth something in the direction of the travel pool, but this pool was stationed too far away to make it out.

The motorcade was rolling for Rehoboth at 10:34.
