In-town pool report #1: press briefing update

Lissa from The Boston Globe here, and I'm your in-town print pooler for the day. I hope you all had a great weekend.

Just passing on that we just got word that the press briefing will begin at 2:15 p.m. EST.

In-town pool report #2: POTUS will have a root canal

Another update!

Per the White House: "The President will undergo a root canal this morning at the White House. The Vice President will host College Athlete Day at the White House, celebrating women's and men's NCAA Champion teams from the 2022-2023 season. Details on other impacts to the schedule are forthcoming."

In-town pool report #3: More updates

Hey all,

Another update from the White House: "Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre will be joined by NSC Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby at today's press briefing." I confirmed with the White House that the start time for this briefing is still 2:15 p.m.

For awareness, I've also put queries out on the root canal: Is the president's root canal considered an emergency procedure? What time will it take place? How long is the procedure expected to last? I will let you know if I get further information.

In-town pool report #4: POTUS procedure

On background from the White House in response to query on whether the president needs anesthesia for this procedure and if he will lose consciousness during it?

"No, the President will not be put under anesthesia and the 25th amendment will not be invoked."

In-town pool report #5: scheduling update

Per White House: "The President's bilateral meeting with Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and the White House reception for Chiefs of Mission will be rescheduled for tomorrow."

In-town pool report #6: press briefing update

Briefing has been pushed back to 2:30 p.m. EST.

In-town pool report #7: two-minute warning

Got the two-minute warning for press briefing at 2:34 p.m. EST.

In-town pool report #8: briefing concludes

Won't go into too much detail here since it was streamed, but some quick notes since we did get some new information during the briefing about POTUS's root canal: Press secretary confirmed "that the procedure has been successfully completed. The president is doing just fine." She added that he will be working in the residence this afternoon. Called the root canal a "routine dental procedure" done with local anesthesia that had no broader effects.

Briefing started at 2:38 p.m. EST and ended at 3:39 p.m. EST.
