Out-of-town pool report #6 - POTUS monitoring NM wildfires Passing on from the WH: From a White House Official: The President is closely monitoring the wildfires in New Mexico, and has approved Governor Lujan Grisham's request for an expedited Major Disaster Declaration, unlocking further federal support and FEMA assistance to the impacted communities. At the President's direction, federal firefighting personnel and equipment from the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Indian Affairs were immediately surged to help support the State and Mescalero Apache Tribe. Over 800 federal personnel are on the ground helping fight these fires, and FEMA quickly approved two Fire Management Assistance Grants earlier this week to further support those efforts. The U.S. Forest Service has assumed operational command to ensure full coordination of all firefighting assets. The President's message to those affected by the fires is that his Administration will be there for them every step of the way, for as long as it takes. |
