In-town pool 4- Sen. Kelly comments Some comments from Sen. Mark Kelly at the stakeout. The Arizona Democrat stressed that his state "deserves a real solution at the border" and blamed Congress for failing to pass bipartisan legislation to enact the border bill in February. He blamed Trump for influencing Republicans in Congress to vote against the border bill so the border could be an issue during the election. "It fell apart in the last minute because the former president decided that he wanted this as a campaign issue." He said Biden's EO "is a very good step forward" and that he believes it will "make a big difference." On whether Biden should have done this in the beginning of his administration, he said "for three years the president has been calling on Congress to take action on this issue." On what he thinks Republicans who worked on the border bill will say about the EO: He expects them to say "hey, this is a good step forward." He said he will continue to work on legislation from Congress -- "we also need comprehensive immigration reform." On whether he views Biden's EO as politically motivated: "The political issue happened months ago after months of negotiation. Many of us, working together, had a plan that had the support of the majority of the United States senate. This is when it became political, when the former president decided he wanted it as a campaign issue." |

Out of town pool #1 - Boarding AF1 Good evening, I'll be your pooler for this flight to Paris, which is expected to last a little over 7 hours. The motorcade reached the tarmac at 7:47 pm and first stopped next to a smaller plane at some distance from AF1. Your pool was stationed too far away to see what was happening but was told that the president was dropping off the First Lady. After a few minutes the motorcade started rolling again and stopped next to AF1. The president, wearing a dark suit and a cap, got out of his car at 7:52 pm and shook hands with his greeter. Potus ascended the short stairs and boarded his plane (tail number 29000) at 7:53 pm. We will be wheels up momentarily. Karine Jean-Pierre and Jake Sullivan are expected to gaggle shorty after takeoff. The gaggle will stream as usual at whitehouse.gov/live |
