President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate one individual to serve in his administration:

The President intends to nominate Richard Eugene Hoagland, of the District of Columbia, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Tajikistan. A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Mr. Hoagland currently serves as Director of the Office of Caucasus and Central Asian Affairs at the Department of State. He previously served as Director of the Office of Public Diplomacy for the Bureau of South Asian Affairs and as Deputy Area Director for Near Eastern Affairs for the former U.S. Information Agency. Mr. Hoagland's previous overseas service includes: Counselor for Public Affairs in Islamabad, Information Officer in Moscow, and Public Affairs Officer in Tashkent. He earned his bachelor's degree from Taylor University, and his master's degree from the University of Virginia.
