Press Release - Personnel Announcement

President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate two people to serve in his Administration.

The President intends to nominate Michael J. Burns, of New Mexico, to be Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Nuclear and Chemical and Biological Defense Programs. Mr. Burns currently serves as Deputy Associate Director of Threat Reduction at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Prior to this, he served as Special Assistant to the President for Nuclear Defense Policy of the Homeland Security Council Staff at the White House. Earlier in his career, he served as Acting Principal Deputy Associate Director for Weapons Physics at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Mr. Burns received his bachelor's degree from New Mexico State University and his master's degree from the University of California at Berkeley.

The President intends to nominate Rosemary E. Rodriguez, of Colorado, to be a Member of the Election Assistance Commission. Ms. Rodriguez currently serves as President of the Denver City Council. Prior to this, she served as Director of Boards and Commissions in the Denver City Mayor's Office. Earlier in her career, she served as a Clerk and Recorder for the City and County of Denver. Ms. Rodriguez attended Metropolitan State College.
