President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate two individuals to serve in his Administration.

The President intends to nominate Mary Beth Long, of Virginia, to be Assistant Secretary of Defense (International Security Affairs). Ms. Long currently serves as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs. Prior to this, she served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Counternarcotics. Earlier in her career, she served as an Attorney at Williams & Connolly LLP and also served in the Directorate of Operations at the Central Intelligence Agency. Ms. Long received her bachelor's degree from Pennsylvania State University and her JD from the Washington and Lee University School of Law.

The President intends to nominate Patricia M. Haslach, of Oregon, to be accorded the rank of Ambassador during the performance of her duties as United States Senior Coordinator for the Asia-Pacific Economic Corporation (APEC) forum.
