Press Release - President Bush to Nominate Brownfield to be Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of Chile
President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate William R. Brownfield to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Chile. A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Mr. Brownfield has been Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs since 1999. From 1998 to 1999, he served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, and from 1995 to 1998, he served as Counselor for Humanitarian Affairs at the U.S. Mission in Geneva. He has filled a variety of other posts in Washington, D.C. including Director of the Office of Policy and Coordination in the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, and he has served abroad in Buenos Aires and San Salvador. Brownfield has received Department Superior Honor Awards four times for his work. He is a graduate of Cornell University and the University of Texas School of Law.
