Press Release - President Bush to Nominate One Individual and Appoint Five Individuals to Serve in his Administration
President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate one individual and appoint five individuals to serve in his administration.
The President intends to nominate Don Q. Washington to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of the Fiji Islands, the Republic of Nauru, the Kingdom of Tonga and Tuvalu. A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Washington has been Counselor for Public Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Canberra, Australia. He served as Deputy Public Affairs Officer in Seoul from 1995 to 1998 and as Cultural Affairs Officer in Jakarta from 1989 to 1993. Washington has completed numerous assignments overseas and in Washington, D.C. including service as Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer in Seoul and Chief of the American Studies Branch in Washington. He is a graduate of Whittier College.
The President intends to appoint Jeannemarie Arajona Devolites of Virginia, to be a Director of the Board of Directors for the Student Loan Marketing Association.
The President intends to appoint Mary Jane Fate of Alaska, to be the Indigenous Representative to the Arctic Research Commission for the remainder of a term expiring February 26, 2005.
The President intends to appoint Louis Mead Treadwell of Alaska to be the Academic Representative to the Arctic Research Commission for a term of four years.
The President intends to appoint Manuel J. Justiz of Texas to be a Member of the Board of Directors of the Federal National Mortgage Association.
The President intends to appoint Edward G. Lewis of Colorado to be a Member of the Board of Directors of the National Veterans Business Development Corporation for a term of four years.
