Press Release - President Obama Nominates William Francis Kuntz, II to the United States District Court

WASHINGTON- Today, President Obama nominated William Francis Kuntz, II to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.

"I am honored to put forward such a highly qualified candidate for the federal bench," President Obama said. "William Francis Kuntz, II will be a distinguished public servant and a valuable addition to the United States District Court."

William Francis Kuntz, II, is a commercial litigator in private practice in New York, and has been a partner at the law firm of Baker Hostetler since 2005. He has been a partner at several law firms in New York during his career, including Torys LLP from 2001 to 2004, Seward & Kissel LLP from 1994 to 2001, and Milgrim, Thomajan, Jacobs & Lee from 1986 to 1994. In addition, he worked as Counsel at Constantine Cannon from 2004 to 2005, and as an associate at Shearman & Sterling LLP from 1978 to 1986. Since 1987, Kuntz has served as a Commissioner of the New York City Civilian Complaint Review Board, supervising hundreds of investigations into allegations of abuse by members of the New York City Police Department. From 1987 to 2003, he was an adjunct associate professor of law at Brooklyn Law School, teaching a course in American legal history. He received his A.B. from Harvard College in 1972 and his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1977. Kuntz also received an M.A. and Ph.D. in American History from Harvard University in 1974 and 1979, respectively.
