Readout of National Security Advisor Susan E. Rice's Meeting with UN Special Envoy Staffan de Mistura

National Security Advisor Susan E. Rice met today at the White House with Staffan de Mistura, the UN's Special Envoy for Syria. Ambassador Rice and Mr. de Mistura discussed the imperative of securing sustained and unimpeded humanitarian aid to Syrians in need as well as options to reduce violence in line with the terms of the Cessation of Hostilities. They agreed on the need to continue urgent efforts under the UN auspices to pursue a durable solution to the conflict through a political transition. Ambassador Rice commended Mr. de Mistura for his tireless efforts on behalf of the Syrian people.
