On April 11, 2019, President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump welcomed President Moon Jae-in and Madam Kim Jung-sook of the Republic of Korea (ROK) to the White House. President Trump and President Moon discussed our two countries' mutual goals of achieving the final, fully verified denuclearization of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and establishing a permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula, as well as the way forward with the DPRK following the Hanoi Summit. President Trump reiterated that he has a very good relationship with DPRK Chairman Kim Jong Un and noted that the door remains open to dialogue. The two leaders affirmed the importance of continuing close coordination and cooperation on DPRK-related matters. The two leaders also discussed the enduring strength of the United States–ROK alliance, which remains the linchpin of peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and in the region. President Trump and President Moon noted the positive impact the significantly improved United States–Korea Free Trade Agreement has had on trade between our two countries, making it more fair and reciprocal. President Trump noted recent investments by South Korean companies in American manufacturing, including in the autos sector, that support U.S. jobs and exports. President Trump and President Moon discussed the recent devastating wildfires in the ROK's northeastern province and President Trump commended the bravery of Korean first responders, whose heroic efforts saved countless lives.
