Readout of Vice President Biden's Call With Iraq's Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi

The Vice President spoke with Iraq's Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi today to underscore the urgency of sustained international cooperation against ISIL, highlighting ongoing U.S. efforts to mobilize increased support for Iraq among the 65-member counter ISIL coalition. The Vice President acknowledged Iraq's ongoing economic and security challenges and the importance of ensuring continued progress against ISIL, particularly in Ramadi. The Vice President also welcomed Iraq's efforts, in coordination with the IMF, to advance key economic reforms for strengthening Iraq's financial security. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the U.S.-Iraq strategic partnership under the Strategic Framework Agreement and to coalition support for Iraqi efforts to restore Iraq's sovereignty and territorial integrity and degrade and destroy ISIL.
