Remarks of Welcome to the President of Ecuador at the Washington National Airport

June 20, 1951

Mr. President:

It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the United States. We shall do all in our power to make your stay among us pleasant and interesting.

I am pleased to extend this welcome to you as President of the United States. We share with you a common devotion to the democratic way of life. Your visit is a symbol of the long-standing friendship that has always existed between our two countries.

It is a source of gratification that Ecuador and the United States are working together with the other free nations to assure the security and peace of the world. Our countries are inspired by a high regard for individual freedom and human welfare.

We are honored by your visit and most heartily extend our best wishes to you personally for the prosperity and well-being of the people of your great country.

Mr. President, you are most welcome.

Note: The President spoke at 3:10 p.m. His Excellency Galo Plaza, President of Ecuador, was received with a 21-gun salute and full military honors.
