With $5.9 million raised 24 hours after announcing, and $6 million total to-date, an unprecedented grassroots army coalesces to support Sanders in every state across the country

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Since announcing his bid for president, U.S. Sen. Sanders is shattering records and building unprecedented support for his vision to transform the country from the bottom up. Thousands of Americans across all 50 states have pledged to support his campaign. In all, more than 225,000 individuals gave $6 million, mirroring the 2016 campaign's average donation of $27. Individuals contributed 600,000 dollars in donations that will recur every month.

"The only way we will win this election and create a government and economy that work for all is with a grassroots movement – the likes of which has never been seen in American history," Sanders said in his message announcing his campaign. "They may have the money and power. We have the people."

In the first 24 hours of the campaign, 223,047 individuals contributed $5,925,771. Sanders' launch video was viewed more than 8.335 million times across social media platforms, including 5.3 million views on Twitter.

In the first 24 hours since his announcement, Sanders demonstrated a level of grassroots support of unprecedented size and excitement, signalling the strength of the movement set on winning the Democratic nomination, defeating Donald Trump and creating a government that works for all Americans.
