August 07, 1992

STATEMENT OF ADMINISTRATION POLICY

(House)
(Owens (D) NY)

The Administration supports House passage of H.R. 5483 and is pleased that it contains most of the Administration's proposals to improve Education of the Deaf Act programs.

The Administration will work in the Senate to:

—   achieve additional improvements to these programs, such as strengthening the endowment grants program; and

—   delete unnecessary and duplicative new authorities, including: (1) new teacher training scholarships in deaf or special education, (2) grants for personnel who work in deafness-related fields; and (3) grants for research into the needs of children with deafness.
