The Administration opposes enactment of H.R. 775. Based on a National Park Service study of Poverty Point, the Department of the Interior has concluded that the State of Louisiana is doing a commendable job of managing and interpreting the cultural resources at Poverty Point. .Moreover, the National Park Service is willing to provide technical assistance to State officials concerning planning and interpretation under existing authority should they desire it. Accordingly, there is no increased resource protection or management expertise to be gained through the transfer of this area to Federal ownership and management.
