Statement by Press Secretary Fitzwater on President Bush's Meeting With Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega Saavedra in San Jose, Costa Rica
President Bush and President Ortega met momentarily while entering the opening session this morning. The two shook hands in a friendly manner. President Ortega mentioned that he had met President Bush a few years ago and that they had discussed some of their problems. President Bush responded that they could have the same discussions today, about free elections and bringing democracy to Nicaragua. Both Presidents then proceeded to their seats for the opening session.
