Statement by Press Secretary Fitzwater on the President's Telephone Conversations With Foreign Leaders on the Persian Gulf Crisis

President Bush called Presidents Mitterrand [of France], Mubarak [of Egypt], and Ozal [of Turkey], King Fahd [of Saudi Arabia], and Prime Minister Mulroney [of Canada] today. President Bush noted the historic nature of the joint statement on the Persian Gulf issued at the conclusion of his meetings with President Gorbachev [of the Soviet Union], and pointed out how this underscores the world community's determination to oppose Iraq's aggression against Kuwait. All the leaders expressed satisfaction on their concerted efforts against Iraq and pledged continued cooperation in this endeavor.
