United States Ambassador to Bulgaria Nomination of Jack Richard Perry.

The President today announced that he will nominate Jack Richard Perry, of Georgia, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Bulgaria.

Perry was born March 21, 1930, in Atlanta. He received his A.B. (1951) and LL.D. (honorary, 1971) from Mercer University and his M.A. (1958) from Columbia University. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1954.

From 1954 to 1957, Perry was with the Associated Press. He was director of Mercer University News Bureau from 1955 to 1956 and a reporter for the Macon Telegraph in 1957.

Perry joined the Foreign Service in 1959, and served in Moscow from 1962 to 1964 and in Paris as political officer with NATO from 1964 to 1966. From 1966 to 1969, he was political officer in Paris. From 1970 to 1972, he was International Relations Officer at the State Department. Perry was Deputy Chief of Mission in Prague from 1972 to 1976 and in Stockholm from 1976 to 1978. Since 1978 he has been Deputy Executive Secretary at the State Department.
