VP pool report #1 4/20: Vatican arrival Buona Pasqua! Good Easter morning from just steps outside Vatican City. Pool has been holding behind a petrol station in view of the dome of Saint Peter's Basilica. The vice president has just arrived at the Vatican. His motorcade drove by pool's staging point at 11:30 a.m. and turned into a Vatican gate. Pool has not been given information on what the vice president is doing at the Vatican this Easter morning, but I will share as soon as I learn. |

VP pool report #3 4/20: Arrival for Easter mass The vice president's motorcade arrived at Basilica Papale di San Paolo Fuori le Mura (Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls) at 12:33 p.m., where VP Vance and his family are attending Easter mass. The family had briefly stopped by their lodging location before coming here. The vice president is wearing a light gray suit for Easter. After exiting the vehicle, the VP picked up his daughter Mirabel and carried her as the family walked inside. What appears to be clergy were waiting at the gate of the basilica to greet the second family. The driveway where he entered is blocked off, but members of the public are still touring the basilica grounds, including the portico. This site is one of four papal basilicas in Rome, owned by the Vatican. Pool has inquired about who is saying the mass for the second family. |

VP pool report #6 4/20: Leaving Italy The vice president and his family have arrived at Rome Ciampino Airport. He boarded Air Force Two at 10:04 p.m. The vice president carefully picked up Mirabel, who appeared to be sleeping, out of the car and slowly walked up the stairs of AF2. Ewan and Vivek were enjoying carrying toy swords, waving them around as they boarded with the second lady head of the VP and Mirabel. AF2 is will be leaving shortly for New Delhi, the capital of India, due to arrive Monday around 9:30 a.m. IST. VP Vance is scheduled to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow. A note: In addition to the VP's family, your pooler was told that seminarians were also in attendance at this morning's private Easter mass at Saint Paul Outside the Wall. Unclear who delivered the mass, however. Pool has not been updated on how the vice president and his family spent the rest of the day and evening in Rome. Arrivederci from the Eternal City. |
