VP Travel Pool #1 - Swept and getting ready to leave

Hey all -

I'm your Pooler for VP's Harris' travels today. Pool has been swept and is about to disembark the hotel.

The following is our public schedule for today:

At 3:10 PM ET, the Vice President will deliver remarks at a campaign event. These remarks in Detroit, MI will be pooled press and open to pre-credentialed media.

At 4:55 PM ET, the Vice President will depart Detroit, MI en route to Phoenix, AZ. This departure from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport will be pooled press.

At 5:45 PM AT, the Vice President will arrive in Phoenix, AZ. This arrival at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport will be pooled press and open to pre-credentialed media.

VP Travel Pool #2 -- rolling. Campaign content shoot.

We rolled from the hotel at 1:15.

Before arriving at the UAW local 900, the Vice President and Governor are filming campaign content for digital platforms.

Pool will hold in motorcade while they shoot the videos.

VP Travel Pool #3 -- rolling to event

Harris and Walz finished shooting their footage at the Music Hall Center for Performing Arts around 2:25. Pool did not see Harris or Walz but a group of kids told us they saw her get out and she waves to them.

A dozen or so people waited to try and get a picture or a glimpse of the ticket.

We are headed to the UAW event now.

VP Travel Pool #4. -- arrived.

We arrived at 3:01 and are headed to the event. A campaign staffer says we are on track for a start around 3:30.

WH sends the below on behalf of the campaign:
Vice President Harris and Governor Walz are attending a campaign event with United Auto Workers (UAW) members in Wayne, MI at Local 900 Hall, which represents Ford's Michigan Assembly Plant. They will deliver brief remarks and greet local union members.

VP Travel Pool #5 --two minute warning

VP Pool #6 -- Event wrapped.

The VP, Governor Walz and Shawn Fain walked out on stage around 3:38. There's a tiny stage about a foot off the ground. A large UAW seal is on the wall. Six American flags flank the sides of the seal.

The room had aets of blue seats in a horseshoe

Fain spoke first, thanking Harris and Walz for coming:

"Kamala Harris is one of us. Tim Walz us one of us."

As Fain talked about the "Trump-Vance disaster," the crowd began to yell
-"He's a felon."
- "he's a racist."
-"he's a criminal"

Chants of "scab!" broke out at times.

"UAW family, are you ready to stand united for the Harris-Walz ticket? Are you ready to speak up for the Harris-Walz ticket. Are you ready to show up for the Harris-Walz ticket." Fain ended and then introduced Walz.

Walz thanked Fain and UAW. Then went into a riff about being able to do anything for 89 days. Repeated that folks can sleep when theyre dead. Said that everyone had 89 days to make Harris president of the united states.

"We got your back!" Chant broke out.

He then went on a riff about Trump, similar to his stump.

"We're not going back" chants broke out a couple of times.

He introduced VP Harris at 3:55.

Starts with a riff on what the two of them have in common and how collective bargaining is about fariness. And that's what they're are talking about in the election.

"Our campaign is about saying we trust the people. We see the people. We know the people."

Says that she is honored to have the endorsement of UAW.

"The thing we like about hard work is we have fun doing hard work. Becuase we know what we stand for. When you know what you stand for, you know what you fight for."

"Even if you're not a member of a union, you better thank unions. You better thank unions for that vacation time."

Harris finished at 4:03 and then did a rope line with the attendees.

Campaign says 170 were here. Pool was rushed out to cars at 4:10 as Harris was finishing the rope line.

VP Travel Pool #7 -- rolling at 5

Motorcade rolled to airport at 5.

VP Travel Pool #9 -- Harris takes questions

Motorcade arrived at 5:21. The VP walked over to the pool and took a few questions.

On debate with Trump: "Well, I'm glad that he's finally agreed to a debate on September 10."

On Republican attacks on Walz record: "Listen, I praise anyone who has presented themselves to serve our country. And I think that we all should"

On why Trump originally backed out of debate: "I am beyond trying to speculate about how he thinks."

On being open to more debates: "I am happy to have that conversation about an additional debate, or after September 10, for sure."

On a sit-down interview : "I've talked to my team. I want us to get an interview scheduled before the end of the month."

We are taking off shortly.

VP Travel Pool #10- landed, greeters, traveling staff

AF2 landed in Phoenix at 6:29 local time after a very bumpy descent.

VP disembarked at 6:38. She hugged and talked to the greeters. Motorcade rolled off at 6:43.

Mayor John Giles of Mesa was also on the tarmac.
