VP Supplemental Pool-1/1- Campaign event appearance/remarks

Hello,

The VP attended and gave remarks at a campaign event today at the St. Regis Hotel in Washington, D.C.

The Biden-Harris campaign said the reception was hosted by the Solar Energy Industries Association. The VP addressed a small group (of about 30 by my count), in a small, ground-level conference room in the hotel.

The VP was introduced at 11:20 a.m. by Sheldon Kimber, the CEO of Intersect Power. He introduced her as "a tireless advocate for a sustainable, prosperous and equitable future for every American," and said her "vision extends beyond the immediate horizon, encompassing both the environmental and economic imperatives that will shape our nation's destiny."

The VP started her remarks at 11:20 a.m, but before delving into the issue at hand, she said she wanted to first address the case of Kate Cox, the pregnant mother who had to leave Texas in order to get an abortion.
She said that Cox "has unfortunately been living in a state that has criminalized access to health care for women."
"And I think it is important that when we are talking about foundational freedoms in our country that we speak out when such an injustice is happening that would deny an individual to be able to make such important decisions about her own body, her life."
"The stakes could not be higher on the issue," she said.

She went on to address the association's members. She said they were working together "to build the clean energy economy and future, which will be about the most important and fundamental priorities for us as a species, which is the need to have clean water and clean air, and to protect this beautiful planet on which we live."
She told them that their work is providing a model for policymakers, calling them a room of "innovators."

She discussed the Inflation Reduction Act, and its projects, as an example of the administration's commitment to their work.
She noted that not one Republican in Congress voted for the IRA, and called out a Georgia Republican who is taking credit for a project there despite voting against it.

She said they needed to be "clear eyed about the challenges in this upcoming election cycle."
"There have been those who have said, if they are elected, they will give me the IRA. So it's no small matter," she said. "It's no small matter.
She told the group that they have a lot of courage to "put your money where your mouth is," in investing in clean energy projects.
"There's more that can be done, but who sits in the White House matters on this," she told them.

The VP finished her remarks at 11:32 and moved to a Q&A portion, which your pooler could not observe.

I waited for additional background to send the report; please reach out with any questions.
