On Background From a White House Official:

Today, Vice President Kamala Harris will continue her leadership on advancing environmental justice and taking historic actions to combat the climate crisis while participating in a moderated conversation at the League of Conservation Voters' Annual Capital Dinner.

During a discussion moderated by U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), the Vice President will highlight the Administration's work to make unprecedented investments in clean energy, outline how the Administration's monumental steps are directly benefiting communities across America, urge climate leaders to continue organizing at the state and national level, and share what she has heard while traveling the country to convene students, climate advocates, and community leaders.

Vice President Harris fought alongside President Biden to enact the largest climate investment in the country's history while cutting energy bills for working families and creating good-paying jobs in wind, solar, and electric vehicle manufacturing. She personally cast the tie-breaking vote to pass the Inflation Reduction Act through the U.S. Senate.

The Vice President has held more than two dozen events focused on uplifting the historic provisions of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act. Through groundbreakings and sites visits in communities across the country and moderated conversations on college campuses, she has been a leading voice on the climate action and economic opportunity made possible by this Administration'shistoric investments to combat the climate crisis.

  • Last month, she returned to Pittsburgh, PA toannounce $5.8 billion in funding for clean water infrastructure that will help to ensure more children and families have access to clean, safe drinking water in their home, school, workplace, and community.
  • In November, the Vice President met with leaders from a dozen prominent climate and environmental groups to discuss the Biden-Harris Administration's historic actions to combat the climate crisis and advance environmental justice.

Vice President Harris has taken actions and led policies throughout her career that center communities disproportionately impacted by the climate crisis, mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, reduce air pollution and protect public health, and help communities become more resilient. Her experiences and perspective on the climate crisis and approach to policy helped shape the Administration's foundational climate priorities of the initial Build Back Better agenda and influenced how she has championed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act since their passage, including by becoming a leading voice on their historic provisions.

  • As a Senator, the Vice President led legislation like the Climate Equity Act, the Water Justice Act, the Environmental Justice for All Act, and the Clean School Bus Act, all of which sought to center communities on the front lines of toxic pollution and the climate crisis.
  • As the District Attorney of San Francisco, the Vice President established one of the first environmental justice units in the nation, and as California Attorney General, she took action against polluters to protect vulnerable communities.
