VP supplemental pool #2 The pool was escorted into the Julia Morgan ballroom on the 15th floor of 465 California Street, in The Merchants Exchange. California Gov. Gavin Newsom had just wrapped up his remarks, and then stood between speeches chatting with attendees. Clint Reilly, the erstwhile political consultant and mayoral candidate who became a commercial real estate , worked the room. He and his wife, Janet, co-hosted the event and own the building. Staffers closed windows to drown out loud pro-Palestine protests happening outside. The pool saw San Francisco Mayor London Breed, former Mayor Willie Brown, and a few state lawmakers, all folks who have known the VP for decades. There also was a small table of alumni from Harris' district attorney's office in San Francisco, an aide said, though the pool could not see them through the crowd. Jeffrey Katzenberg, the film producer and a top fundraiser for Biden, was hanging out by the main exit, blending in with the crowd like a staffer. "It is indeed good to be home," VP Harris said after a standing ovation. She spoke from the stage lit in blue. Harris said she joked with Newsom that between the two of them they could identify many of the building's rooms just by feel and with their eyes closed because they'd spent so many days and nights gathering at events with the owners over the years. She spoke for a few minutes about her travels around the country talking about restoring abortion rights, and countering Republican "extremists" threatening the right to vote. "This election is a fight for our most fundamental freedoms. And we are here tonight because we have a responsibility, dare I say a duty, to preserve and protect our nation's most sacred ideals, freedoms, liberty and justice," Harris said. Harris left after POTUS concluded. Goodnite. |
