VP Pool Report 1 The vice president just finished participating in a question and answer series with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus at the Hardy Senior Center in Houston where she talked about reproductive rights, gun violence, mental health and investments in small businesses over the course of about 40 minutes. She was greeted at the beginning by Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo who shared with the crowd her decision to seek mental health treatment, a decision Harris later praised. Hidalgo said Harris called her in Ohio while she was receiving that treatment earlier this year. Harris talked about "extremist" policies around the nation in Texas and Florida. She specifically talked about abortion bans and Florida's ban on DEI, which has also been banned in Texas. "We are living in a moment where there is a full on attack on hard won freedoms full out attack on freedoms." VP pool report 2 The motorcade has arrived at a private residence in Houston decked out in holiday decorations. Mayor Sylvester Turner and Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo among the crowd. The crowd was first addressessed at 6 p.m. CST bySima Ladjevardian. First gentelman Doug Emhoff addressed the group saying "We will never give up on Texas." He talked about past Texas Democrats like Henry B. Gonzalez and Ann Richards. "I'm excited about this re-election," he said. "I am fired up." Emhoff introduced Harris calling her "a fighter." Harris says the next 11 months is about a "fight for this country we love." She urges the group not to sit passively on the sidelines. "The outcome of this election will be a statement in so many ways about who we are as a nation." She talked about abortion, voting rights and ability to love who we want to love being under attack. She said 2020 and the midterm give her optimism, citing the record turnout in 2020. She said while the media says it will be a tough election in 2024, she says. "We've got a lot of good material."She outlines Biden-Harris accomplishments on infrastructure, broadband, lowering the cost of some prescriptions, among others. |
