VP pool #2: VP and family entered kitchen VP Harris and her family entered the industrial-scale kitchen at 11:26am. Three large tables are set up in a U shape with big plastic bins of collard greens, empty plastic bins and cutting boards. Behind them are bins filled with cut up butternut squash. On the other side of the kitchen, workers and volunteers are sealing completed meals. The family is washing their hands and are all wearing baseball caps with the DC Central Kitchen logo. They also put on gloves and went to their stations. Dusty Cooper, COO, and Malik taught the assembled group how to take the stem out of the center of the collard greens. Family members present include: Ella Emhoff Cole Emhoff and Greenley Littlejohn Maya Harris and Tony West Meena Harris and her daughters, Amara and Leela |

VP pool report #3: chatter while de-stemming collard greens "This is not my first rodeo," Ella Emhoff said while de-stemming the greens. Meena Harris told Ella Emhoff how she likes to cook and pickle them. VP Harris asked one of the DC Central Kitchen chefs how they cook them. Harris said she puts garlic and brown sugar in her collard greens. Ella Emhoff was chatting with the workers about various food recipes (your pooler was set closest to her). "Everything in this family is a competition," Meena Harris said, which VP Harris then repeated with a laugh, "Everything in this family is a competition." The VP took some of the Second Gentleman's collard greens, to which he joked "why are you taking mine?" Workers have been bustling in and out to take full buckets out and bring new ones in. Leela asked her dad where collard greens grow and the VP said all states. Doug Emhoff asked how Ella Emhoff was doing and she responded, "I'm already on my second bucket." He responded, "Well, I'm older." Doug Emhoff jokingly asked Leela if she was bragging (presumably about how fast she was de-stemming the collard greens). A reporter asked VP Harris what she was making for dinner, she said she is making: Turkey A reporter asked Harris what is next for her. VP Harris responded "Thanksgiving dinner." Press left the room at 11:48am. |
