VP Pool Report #4: remarks + color Vice President Kamala Harris took the stage at 4:24pm to a round of applause and chants of "Kamala." She thanked her family, President Biden, Tim Walz, and her campaign staff. Her approximately 10 minute long comments were televised but a few quotes below: "The outcome is not what we wanted, not what we fought for, not what we hoped for, but hear me when I say, the light of America's promise will always turn bright as long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting," Harris said. "I know folks are experiencing a range of emotions right now, I get it, but we must accept the results of this election," she added, recounting her call congratulating Donald Trump on winning the election, eliciting a few boos in the audience. She also urged people not to give up hope: "It's OK to be sad or disappointed, but please know it's going to be OK...sometimes the fight takes a while. Don't ever give up." The mood at the rally was incredibly somber. The crowd of what appeared to number several thousand was very quiet. Harris campaign aides stood to one side of the stage as she spoke and exchanged hugs, including Jen O'Malley Dillon, David Plouffe, and Brian Fallon. Pooler spotted former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and DC Mayor Muriel Bowser conversing in the crowd. Several of VP's younger family members were wiping away tears as they left the rally. As Minnesota Gov Tim Walz walked out, your pooler asked him, "What's next?": "Minnesota," he answered. Pool is now loading into vans. |
