VP pool report #1- JBA/ wheels up Happy Saturday from Joint Base Andrews. I'll be your print pooler for Vice President Harris's North Carolina trip. Marine Two landed at 4:39pm. The vice president stepped off the helicopter and waved to a crowd of people assembled at JBA. She then walked up to the press and talked about releasing her medical report. Check against transcript but quick quotes here- "It's evident that his team at least does not want the American people to see everything about who he is." "It's clear to me that he and his team do not want the American people to really see what he is doing and if he is fit to be the president." "I will not give you a medical analysis on his fitness... around having the ability to exercise with judgement" Said he "talks at his rallies about fictional characters" and "makes things up." Do you think Trump mental acuity has declined? "I invite the public to watch his rallies and be the decision maker" What do you want to do in North Carolina this weekend? "I've been spending a lot of time there... I look forward to talking with the people of North Carolina.. first and foremost to see how they're doing in the wake of the hurricane." She said she will be talking about her plan for creating an opportunity economy. "This is a tight race. It is a margin of error race." Said will be talking about the republicans supporting her candidacy and the importance of country over party. "This is a tight race but the choice is clear." She boarded Air Force two at 4:50pm. We will be wheels up for Raleigh shortly. |

VP pool report #3- The Pit The motorcade arrived at The Pit Authentic Barbecue at 6:36pm. We did not see the VP enter the building. She walked into a room with signs reading "Black Joy!" And "Black Voters" hanging on the wall. People applauded when she walked in and she stopped to speak with people individually, who made a circle around her. She was with Durham mayor Williams and told the group he "warmly" greeted her on the tarmac, "as he has done several times." Pool could hear her talking to some attendees one by one, a few quotes we caught below: "Not yet my dear! 24 days" "I say to folks... you can't let anybody take your power." "We don't let anybody take our power and we don't let anybody take us out of the game." "We're about the make the first HBCU presidency ever." "you doing alright?" followed by, "nobody's ever going to be mad at you for being loyal to your team" One person in the room said, "anything you need, we got you" Harris said to him later: "You know my first office that I ran for was at Howard University, freshman class president of the college of arts and sciences." Pool is now holding. |

VP pool report #5- The Pit 3 Apologies, the last report said it was #2. That was a mistake, it was #4. And this is #5. Pool entered a room with supplies lined up on tables, including baby wipes, Advil, bandaids, feminine products, diapers, formula, bars of soap and emergen-c packets. The supplies will be packaged and sent to those impacted by the hurricane. Durham mayor Williams and Rep Ross were already in room and Harris walked in at 7:23pm. She was handed boxes and she placed two packages of diapers in each. She then slid the box to the next person on the assembly line. She chatted a bit with those to the side of her. We did not see the VP leave The Pit. Motorcade is rolling at 7:35pm. |
