Vice Presidential Pool Reports of October 14, 2024

VP pool report 1 - VP arrives at DNC Hdq

Good afternoon. The vice president's staff has informed the pool that VP Harris has just arrived the DNC headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Pool is holding, and will travel with her to Erie, Pa., for her rally later this afternoon.

VP pool report 2 - motorcade to Andrews

At 1606 the vice president's motorcade is en route Joint Base Andrews for the start of her trip to Erie, Pennsylvania.

VP pool report 3 — Departing Andrews

Vice President Harris's motorcade arrived on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews in suburban Maryland at 1622 following an uneventful 16-minute, 11 mile drive.

She waved to the pool but did not stop for questions and climbed aboard at 1425.

We are using the military equivalent of a Boeing 757 today.

We should be airborne shortly.

VP pool report 4 — arrival in Erie

Air Force 2 touched down at 1739 following a 52-minute flight marked by some bumps during climbout and then was smooth thereafter.

The vice president came to the aft cabin and spoke off the record with the pool for seven and a half minutes just before we took off.

It is considerably chillier in Erie than in DC, about 50 F.

VP pool report 5 — motorcade rolling

VP Harris came down the staircase at the forward of the plane at 1803 in a black pantsuit and blue scarf.

She was greeted at the base of the stairs by local officials, with whom she chatted for a couple of minutes and took selfies, and then climbed into her waiting SUV.

VP pool report 6 - arrival at local business

The VP's motorcade arrived at a strip mall a few miles south of downtown Erie at 1821, in Kearsarge.

Per the Harris campaign:

Vice President Harris is stopping by LegendErie Records and Coffee House, an Erie Black-owned small business, for a conversation with Black men from the Erie area.

VP pool report 7 — inside Legenderie Records

The vice president entered the record store/coffee shop at 1827. She greeted the proprietors and others awaiting her arrival.

"Hello madame vice president. Welcome to Erie," county councilman Andre Horton said. Before she stepped inside, he told the pool:
"I'm giddy with anticipation."

The owners of the business are Ishmael and Allana Trainor.

The VP sat with her hosts and others at some tables across from the coffee counter as pool was led out.

Pool is holding at the press van.

VP pool report 8 — motorcade en route to rally

The VP's motorcade was underway at 1851 en route the rally venue.

Note: the still photographers were allowed back into the record store briefly, during which time she purchased a Marvin Gaye record.

VP pool report 9 — arrival at arena

The vice president's motorcade arrived at Erie Insurance Arena at 1903.

This is a basketball and hockey arena a few blocks from the lake.

The vice president was scheduled to begin her remarks at 1935. Her appearance will be carried live on C-SPAN.

VP pool report 10 — inside the arena

The Harris campaign is using about three quarters of the arena, which has a total concert capacity of about 9400, and appears to have filled it, except for the obstructed seats directly behind the media riser and the space on the floor set aside for press.

VP pool report 11 — Harris takes the stage

The vice president came to the lectern at 1943.

Her rally is being carried live on C-SPAN.

VP pool report 13 - motorcade toward airport

Pool was escorted back to the press bus as the vice president was still greeting supporters in front of the stage.

At 2039 the motorcade is rolling toward the airport.

VP pool report 14 - back at airport

The VP's motorcade was back on the airport tarmac at 2051.

The vice president emerged from her SUV and walked to the Air Force 2's port engine, where a number of her Pennsylvania staff had gathered for a photo.

She then climbed the staircase at the front of the plane and stepped aboard at 2056.

We should be on the way to Detroit soon.

VP pool report 15 - arrival at Detroit airport

Air Force 2 touched down at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport at 2156 after a 44-minute trip crossing Lake Erie the long way.

We had no visitors from the front of plane during the brief flight.

VP pool report 16 — motorcade to hotel

The vice president emerged from the plane at 2209, came down the stairs and stepped into her SUV a minute later.

The motorcade is rolling toward the city at 2212.

VP travel pool report 17 — arrival at RON hotel

The vice presidential motorcade arrived in Detroit at the hotel where she is to remain the rest of the night at 2240 following an uneventful drive in from the airport.

VP pool report 18 — lid

The Office of the Vice President has announced a lid for the night.
