VP supplemental pool #2: VP begins speaking VP exited the front door of the Naval Observatory at 12:57pm and stepped down onto a platform with a lectern in front of the entrance. She is addressing the comments made by John Kelly yesterday to several outlets. "While Donald Trump was president said he 'wanted generals like Adolf Hitler had.'" "He wants a military that isn't loyal to the United States Constitution: He wants a military loyal to him." It is "troubling and dangerous that he would invoke Adolf Hitler." Kelly said Trump "clearly falls into the general definition of fascist." She exited at 1pm without taking any questions. Will send fuller quotes shortly. |

VP supplemental pool report #3: full quotes VP's motorcade left the residence as of 1:06pm, pooler didn't see her enter. She is headed to JBA. Handing off to the traveling pooler. Fuller quotes: "Donald Trump's former chief of staff, John Kelly, a retired four-star general, confirmed that while Donald Trump was president, he said he 'wanted generals like Adolf Hitler had.'" "Donald Trump said that because he does not want a military that is loyal to the United States Constitution, he wants a military that is loyal to him. He wants a military who will be loyal to him personally, one that will obey his orders even when he tells them to break the law or abandon their oath to the Constitution of the United States." "Donald Trump has repeatedly called his fellow Americans 'the enemy from within' and even said that he would use the United States military to go after American citizens. And let's be clear about who he considers to be the enemy from within: anyone who refuses to bend a knee or dares to criticize him would qualify in his mind as the enemy within — like judges, like journalists, like nonpartisan election officials." "It is deeply troubling and incredibly dangerous that Donald Trump would invoke Adolf Hitler, the man who is responsible for the deaths of 6 million Jews and hundreds of thousands of Americans." "It is clear from John Kelly's words that Donald Trump is someone who, I quote, 'certainly falls into the general definition of fascists.'" "Donald Trump is increasingly unhinged and unstable, and in a second term, people like John Kelly would not be there to be the guardrail against his propensities and his actions." "So, the bottom line is this: We know what Donald Trump wants. He wants unchecked power. The question in 13 days will be, what do the American people want?" |

We will be wheels up shortly to Pennsylvania, where the vice president will participate in a CNN town hall with undecided voters in Delaware County tonight at 9 pm ET. VP travel report #5: Deli color The vice president walked into the deli at 2:54 pm to cheers and began taking photos with, shaking hands and greeting the campaign volunteers for about 10 mins. It was too difficult to hear all of the exchanges, but she stopped and chatted briefly with several tables. Mayor Cherelle Parker was with Harris, walking through the deli with her. "Lots of work to do," she said at one point. One man told her: "Black men support you, let's get that picture together." Harris then addressed the room. Please check quotes against the transcript "I want to just stop by to say I am so grateful for all of you, what you are doing. Everyone has a busy life... Real leadership is about lifting each other up, and that's what you all are doing. You are showing what that spirit is like in action." "Knock wood, god willing, we are going to win." "Because of all you are doing, we are building community, we are building coalition ...we have so much more in common than what separates us." She said the campaign is about turning the page on an era where people point fingers at each other, and that it's time to unify. "We have 13 days to go, and I am so deeply thankful to you. You are having an impact." "Your work here will impact people around the country...people you maybe never meet, people who may never know your name." "This is about the fact that we love our country." She thanked the mayor, who she called a "force" for organizing voters and reminding supporters "what's at stake." The mayor then led the room in a chant, asking everyone to hold one finger in the air. "One Philly, a united city," the mayor said. The Vice President then walked up to the counter to pick up her food. She told the pool she ordered a pastrami on rye bread, and a slice of German chocolate cake. One other quick note: On our way into the deli, there was a person yelling "Free Palestine" from a window at the top of a building nearby. Also sending the below from the Harris-Walz campaign: Vice President Harris is stopping by the Famous 4th Street Deli, one of Philadelphia's oldest delis, for a Harris-Walz campaign volunteer appreciation event. VP travel report #11: Inside the town hall space Reminder that tonight's CNN town hall, moderated by Anderson Cooper, will not be simulcast. Tune in to watch it in full on CNN at 9 pm ET. Only your print pooler and photographers have been allowed into the room for the duration of the town hall. Your print pooler is positioned in the back left of the space, facing the stage. Your print pooler was not allowed to bring a laptop into the room, only a phone, but will work to document any notable off-camera moments from the event or during the commercial breaks. Two white chairs are set up on small stage. There are roughly 30 people in the audience. More to come. |
October 23, 2024 21:42 |
VP travel report #12: First commercial break VPOTUS placed her microphone on her chair and walked off stage during the first commercial break. Quick recap of the first ~40 minutes: Before Cooper turned to audience questions, VPOTUS was asked at the top about democracy and her warnings about a second Trump term. "Yes I do," Harris said, when asked directly if she believes Trump is a fascist. The first round of audience questions were on how Harris would serve for independents and anti-Trump Republicans who don't feel they have a place with either party, grocery prices, her top legislative priority, on how she will differ from Biden, immigration, Gaza, and antisemitism, among other topics. |
October 23, 2024 21:59 |
VP travel report #13: Second commercial break More audience questions on what she considers her weakness, her economic plans, and on grief. She exited the stage again during the short break. |
