VP Travel Pool Report #5 -- Remarks end

VP Harris stopped speaking at 5:04 giving her remarks a total run time of

Her remarks were about 27 minutes long, including three standing ovations giving her remarks the same running time as she had in San Francisco

Here remarks largely mirrored what she said in San Francisco yesterday

- She reminded the crowd that there are 37 days until the election.
-During her remarks, VP Harris received a standing ovation when she mentioned her debate against former President Trump.
-She received a second standing ovation when she pledged to sign a bill restoring Roe V. Wade as president.
-She received a third standing ovation when she said, "Let me be clear, we are going to win."

"Every four years we say this is the one. This here is the one," she said of the upcoming election.

"This election is about two very different visions four our nation and we see that contrast every day on the campaign trail."

-VP Harris mentioned that in the past few days she's been to GA to talk about abortion rights, PA to lay out her vision for the economy and AZ to present her plan to strengthen the border.

-On Trump

"We just see the same old tired show from the same old tired play book with no plan on how he would address the needs of the American people."
"It's time to turn the page. I think America is ready to chart a new way forward and a new generation of leadership that is optimistic."

"I think that's why Democrats, Republicans and Independents are supporting our campaign because they want a president who works for all the American people.

VP Harris talked about her background and career as well as laid out her economic vision largely mirroring her remarks from the Economic Club of Pittsburgh this past week.

"I am a devout public servant and I am capitalist."

"Donald Trump has a different plan and in many ways, he is an unserious man. He's an unserious man, however, the consequences of putting him back in the White House are extremely serious."

"The top economists in our country have reviewed our plans and compared them. Goldman Sachs says my plan would grow the economy and his plan would shrink it."

"We are here together because we know the stakes and we are here together because we love our country. I do believe it is one of the highest forms of patriotism to fight for the ideals of our country.

"This race is as close as it could be and we are the underdog, friends. And I'm running like the underdog."

The Vice President received updates on Federal actions to support emergency response and recovery. The Vice President made clear that we must use every available federal resource to help communities in need.

The Vice President intends to visit impacted communities as soon as it is possible without disrupting emergency response operations.

The Vice President spoke with North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper about ongoing rescue and recovery efforts in the state. She noted President Biden's disaster declaration and offered the Administration's commitment to providing all necessary federal resources amidst ongoing flooding and devastation.

The Vice President also reached out to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Georgia Governor Brian Kemp. She will continue to speak with leaders from impacted states throughout this evening and tomorrow.

VP Travel Pool Report #18 - Remarks end

VP Harris concluded her remarks at 8:18, clocking them at 27 minutes.

Per campaign official, over 7,500 people attended tonight's rally.

At the start of her remarks, VP Harris gave a shout out to some Las Vegas Raiders in the crowd.

She began her remarks by providing a brief update on the federal response to Helene and expressing concern for those impacted by the storm.

From were your pooler was seated, it was impossible to see who was there and your pooler has asked for that information.

The pool is positioned all the way across the floor (on the other side of the arena) from the stage and the crowd is frequently cheering over top of VP Harris' remarks. It's a combination that has made hearing her remarks very, very challenging.

Here are some select highlights.

"Donald Trump is using the same tired playbook."

"It's time to turn the page."

She spent most of her remarks laying out her economic vision.

She talked about supporting small businesses, creating an opportunity economy. Expanding the child tax credit and eliminating the college degree requirement for certain federal jobs.

She then switched her remarks to talking about the need for comprehensive immigration reform. VP Harris remarks on the issue were very similar to her remarks in Arizona on Friday.

"So Nevada ours is a fight for the future and it is a fight for freedom," she said.

She then talked about abortion rights before briefly about gun violence.

"We are here together because we know what's at stake and we love our country," she said.

VP Travel Report #22 —Post lid schedule change

On background from a White House official:

Vice President Harris will leave Las Vegas first thing Monday morning, cancelling planned campaign stops, to return to Washington, D.C. Upon arrival, she will travel to FEMA Headquarters where she will be briefed on the ongoing impacts of Hurricane Helene and the Federal actions being taken to support emergency response and recovery.

Today, the Vice President spoke with Governor Cooper and contacted Governor DeSantis and Governor Kemp. She made clear that the Administration will stand with the impacted communities throughout their recovery. The Vice President intends to visit impacted communities as soon as it is possible without disrupting emergency response operations.

Background on the Administration's actions to support response efforts:

Supporting On-The-Ground Response Efforts

As of today, more than 3,300 personnel from across the Federal workforce are deployed and supporting Hurricane Helene response efforts across the impacted states. This includes the most experienced incident management teams to help identity Federal resources to address unmet needs, as well as Urban Search and Rescue personnel using high water rescue equipment for rescue missions across the region.

At least 50,000 personnel from 31 states and the District of Columbia and Canada are responding to power outages and working around the clock throughout parts of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina to restore power to those communities that can receive power. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is moving generators and additional power generation assets into the hardest hit areas of South and North Carolina as flood waters recede and debris removal allows. As of this afternoon, approximately 2.3 million customers are without power, down from the region-wide peak of 4.6 million on September 27.

Additional Interagency Support Efforts

Together with state and local partners, the Federal government is actively supporting Hurricane Helene response efforts and is coordinating requests for Federal assistance.

  • FEMA distribution centers are fully stocked and ready to provide commodities and equipment to any impacted state, as required.
  • FEMA is trucking dozens of trailers containing food and water in North Carolina to support the State as they start to set up care-sites for survivors.
  • FEMA is also working with the Federal Communications Commission and private sector telecommunications partners to deploy emergency mobile communications assets while they work to restore network services, particularly in remote areas.
  • The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services declared a Public Health Emergency for Florida and Georgia, giving health care providers and suppliers greater flexibility in meeting emergency health needs of Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries. About 200 medical responders are in Florida, Alabama, and North Carolina, along with medical equipment and supplies, to help ensure the delivery of health care services following the landfall of Hurricane Helene.
  • Twenty-four federal Urban Search and Rescue Task Forces are deployed across the affected regions. Roughly 1,302 Urban Search and Rescue personnel are assisting in the impacted areas. Together with local and state responders, teams have rescued and supported over 1,400 of people across the impacted area.
  • The U.S. Coast Guard has thousands of personnel working on response efforts and are conducting post-storm assessments to support the rapid reopening of impacted ports.
  • The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers deployed teams for temporary emergency power, debris removal, and infrastructure assessment, including for dams throughout the region.
  • The Environmental Protection Agency has personnel on the ground who are offering technical assistance and guidance on water systems, debris management, and maintaining critical public health and environmental protections in place as storm impacts are assessed.
  • The U.S. Small Business Administration deployed more than 50 personnel to support survivors and small businesses as they recover from the hurricane.
  • The U.S. Department of Energy has responders deployed across the region and are closely monitoring power, fuel, and supply chain interruptions.
  • The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency has deployed personnel to the impacted region to extend much-needed emergency credit to farmers and agriculture producers who lost crops and livestock.
