Former Virginia Sen. Jim Webb, badly trailing his rivals for the 2016 Democratic nomination, used his turn in the national spotlight Tuesday night to criticize the role of big money in presidential politics.
"People are disgusted with the way that money has corrupted our political process, intimidating incumbents and empowering Wall Street every day," Webb said at the first Democratic presidential debate, held in Las Vegas.
He returned to the issue in his closing remarks, urging viewers watching the debate on CNN to "help me overcome this cavalcade of financial irregularities and money that is poisoning our political process."
