Statement by the Press Secretary: President Congratulates Kuwaiti's New Amir

President Bush congratulates His Highness Shaykh Sabah al-Ahmad Al Sabah on becoming Kuwait's new amir. The President welcomes the opportunity to deepen the close cooperation that has developed between our two countries over the years. He looks forward to working closely with Amir Sabah to combat terrorism and extremism in the region, bring peace to the people of Iraq, and promote reform in the Arab world. The President also looks forward to building on his friendship with Amir Sabah and enhancing America's already warm relations with Kuwait and with the Kuwaiti people.
